Installing Your KP® Vinyl Siding
The best installation advice we can give is that you read through our Installation Manual carefully before beginning your project. Remember, proper preparation is the key to a smooth installation job. The Installation Manual provides you a simple, step-by-step guide for installing your KP vinyl siding.
Bear in mind the following absolute “must-do’s” for every siding installation:
- Don't nail too tightly. Always allow a minimum of 1/32”-1/16" (rick) space between the back of the nail head and the nailing hem. Space nails a maximum of 16” (rick)12" - 16" apart on center.
- Leave at least 1/4" clearance for the siding (rick) at all openings and accessory channel stops. This allows for normal expansion and contraction. When installing in temperatures below 32° F, leave 3/8".
- Allow for expansion when installing shutters, downspouts, etc. Always make sure the hole for the fastener is 1/4" larger than the diameter of the fastener to allow for normal expansion. For example, a 1/8" screw requires a 3/8" hole.
- NEVER NAIL THROUGH THE FACE OF THE SIDING! Face nailing is driving a nail through the panel outside of the center of a nail slot.
- Center fasteners in nail slots. Fastening at the end of the slot will cause permanent damage to the siding panel. If you need to lengthen the nail slot, you can do so with a nail-slot punch.
- Drive nails in straight. Nailing at an angle will may result in distorting the distort siding panels and may cause buckling.
- Be careful not to stretch panels. Just push upward on the bottom of each panel until the locks fully engage, then nail the panel in place. Panels should hang freely, without strain.
- Overlap panels approximately 1"–1 1/4”.
- Use fasteners long enough to penetrate a minimum of 3/4" into the nailable base.
